I have realized I'm obsessed with local fish markets
Seeing the local fish market in Kizimkazi on the island of Zanzibar, made me explore fish markets further after arriving in the capital of Tanzania, Dar Es Salaam. The day of my arrival to the city I already knew where I needed to go, but I was alone. I still decided to take a shot and go even by myself. I admit I was scared a bit since I was planning to take my big camera with me and knew no one there.
Fish markets in the city also start really early in the morning. I was ready at 6 am, but last minute I changed my mind and only went there with my phone. Thank goodness I did.
I arrived there, everyone stared at me. I guess they don't see many tourists there.
I managed to take few videos but really I felt really weird and some moments, not really welcomed. Some locals were nice though.
As much as I enjoyed the crowdedness and all the noise and colors, I decided to give up on taking pictures and go back to the apartment. Later that day, I thought, I couldn't leave Dar Es Salaam without taking proper pictures of locals and the market, so I asked a local to go with me the next day and help me socialize with them or tell them off when they start swearing at me ( some really did, ooopppsss )
I was happy and excited.
The day came, and like any other, the morning was already hot. When you arrive at the fish market it seems even hotter in that crowd and especially with the fish smell.
Here are some photos of that morning. I really loved being there. Moments like this make me humble myself more and appreciate little things in life. These pictures tell the story. Enjoy.
Some smiley faces.
They happily posed for me.
I really loved being part of that morning market. Dar Es Salaam really went under my skin. Until next time...
